UP 8222 Leads the Texas Eagle (Fuzzy)
Title:  UP 8222 Leads the Texas Eagle (Fuzzy)
Description:  I regret that my focus didn't play nice, but I'm still happy I was able document this. In mid-January 2017, Amtrak's northbound Texas Eagle #22 broke down at Big Sandy, TX (about 110 miles east of Dallas) and UP had to send a locomotive to rescue it. Eventually UP 8222 came to the rescue and brought the train to its next stop of Longview (15 miles east of Big Sandy), arriving 4 hours and 39 minutes late. UP 8222 stayed with the train until St Louis, where another Amtrak unit replaced it. The train eventually arrived in Chicago 6 hours and 23 minutes late.

The freight locomotive was placed on the Eagle after the train had locomotive troubles in east Texas and pulled it the rest of the way to St Louis.

Sitting at the Station
Title:  Sitting at the Station
Description:  Three trains sit at the St Louis Amtrak Station on a rainy afternoon. At the left are Amtrak trains 314 and 304, the inbound Missouri River Runner from Kansas City and the Chicago-bound Lincoln Service. On the right is a 6 hour late northbound Texas Eagle, being assisted by UP 8222 after AMTK 201 broke down in East Texas. (UP 8222 would be replaced with an Amtrak unit while in St Louis).

Four Head-Ends Are Better Than One
Title:  Four Head-Ends Are Better Than One
Description:  Sitting at the St Louis Amtrak Station, four head-ends poke out from beneath the overhead walkway. UP 8222 sits with a very late Texas Eagle #22, which it rescued after locomotive troubles hit AMTK 201 in east Texas. On the middle two tracks are Amtrak trains #314 & #304, the inbound Missouri River Runner and outbound Lincoln Service. And on the track closest to the camera is AMTK 54, which will replace UP 8222 on the Texas Eagle.
